Honk and waves!

October 29th, 2007 by Juli

As we approach Election Day, the time for honk and waves are upon us. I know it sounds silly to stand on street corners with big Ralph Becker signs and waving at complete strangers, but honk and waves actually serve a purpose. We’re rallying the troops, energizing Becker supporters and reminding them to go out and vote November 6th. Honk and waves are not only worthwhile they are also (dare I say?) fun!

So join us for one (or more) of our honk and waves. They are a fun, energizing way to start, or end, your day.
Call Juli at campaign headquarters (359-4746) for more information. And if you can’t join us, keep an eye out for us in your neighborhood and be sure to give us a honk of support.

Impressive Volunteer Effort Has Now Covered Nearly Every SLC Voting District, from West Side to East Bench

(Salt Lake City) – With less than two weeks to go in the Salt Lake City mayoral race, Ralph Becker announced today that his door-to-door grassroots campaign effort had reached virtually every corner of the city. To be precise, Becker and his supporters have walked door-to-door over 90% percent of Salt Lake City’s 157 voting districts. These precincts span the entire city, from the west side and central city to the east bench and Sugar House.

“One of my most important goals in this campaign has been to talk face-to-face with voters in every single neighborhood of the city,” Becker said. “I feel so strongly about it because Salt Lake City needs a mayor for the whole city, not just a few select neighborhoods.”

To reach this milestone, the Becker campaign has generated some impressive statistics:

· Ralph and his supporters have walked door-to-door Monday through Saturday, every week, since March – a just under 150 days and nights.

· Nearly 100 volunteers have joined Ralph on his walks. Many of these individuals have gone door-to-door for Ralph on multiple occasions, for a total of nearly 700 volunteer “walker days” on behalf of the Becker campaign.

· Most voting areas have been visited twice by the campaign while just over 50% have been canvassed in three times.

With the election approaching, the Becker campaign will be focusing on “getting out the vote,” including the thousands of supporters the campaign has identified during Ralph’s door-to-door walks.

“We’ve developed an amazing list of supporters by talking to voters person-to-person, one house at a time,” Becker said. “Our priority for the next two weeks is to make sure those voters get to the polls on November 6.”

Just wanted to share a few photos from the Millcreek FIDOS event that Ron Barness helped organize at the Evershed’s.

Despite the constant drizzle/downpour we were very happy to see the support from the FIDOS’ community.

So the campaign has caught its collective breath and now we are right back into the swing of things.

As Kirk Jowers, Director of the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics, put it: “Becker needs to continue walking the pavement and show that he is not taking this race for granted… The most important thing is that he not act like the foreordained winner.”

Well I can tell you that we are planning on doing just that (the walking part, not the “foreordained winner” part). We start round two of walking tomorrow night and don’t plan on letting up until Election Day on Spetemb…November 6th.

If you are interested in helping out, please let me know. I can be reached at 359-4746 or by email at curtis@ralphbecker.com.

P.S. I just wanted to thank all of the volunteers who have helped us out so far; your work is much appreciated and we would really appreciate your continued support.

Do you have a Keith or Jenny sign sitting in your garage after Election Day? Do you want a Ralph Becker sign? We’ll trade you! We’ll take your lawn sign from any other campaign, reuse the wood and deliver a new sign right to your door. Call us or email juli@ralphbecker.com.
